I enjoy front-end platform engineering and developer experience topics.

@lapcatsoftware Reloading the page shows me the same content. Avatar in top right isn’t loaded. I assume it just needs JS enabled but I can’t seem to re-enable it.

Do I have any developer relations people in my network? Is anyone, or your professional acquaintance looking for work as DevRel at a (EU) developer tooling start-up?

One of this metric is something each of them can influence directly. (2/2)

I just spent 40 minutes debugging why my toy web server keeps responding with the same response, even when I change it. Folks, remember to shut down your day job’s work to avoid occupying local ports and querying /ping endpoint (so common).

Any developers here? I'm struggling a bit with setting up a marketplace app in development mode.

I have a chance to get my hands on with the mini keyboard. I’m looking to use it as a backup device. Got any experience with it?

The spacers (rubber bands) for brace prep are really annoying. I got ones on my bottom jaw now, don’t remember it being that irritating when they added them on my top jaw 🤯

I wonder whether the productivity increase is worth this $$$ and how companies will react once the prices go up. (2/2)

Feeling the psychological impact of this weekend due to Munich conference. I can sympathize with folks over the pond. Also… getting very schizophrenic vibes from “visitors”. How shall we take more responsibility if we’re excluded from important decisions? I assume these are the shock tactics and “diplomacy” that Trump learned from R*****

Building with hono.dev and it is very pleasant. The only confusing part was with combine functions to exclude middleware execution. Really liking HTML/SSR first approach with JSX.

Finished reading N. Stephenson’s Termination Shock, I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
It was quite verbose at times, especially the first half but interesting ideas as it’s usual for his books. Written in 2021 it is kind of prophetic in displaying drone warfare, deepfakes and hybrid warfare. Not that it wasn’t known back then but it is part of our world now and more fully realized.

🤧detske chripky letos brutalni.

I still like posting Q&A style answers (you ask a question but provide solution right away) on . I wonder if there’s some other place ppl tend to use. Seems like everyone just joins a project’s Discord and chat away.

Web has its own conventions: back/forward navigation, tabs etc. I expect for heavy web apps to gain offline capability via PWA in future, thus bridging the gap even more. With mobile, it’s a bit of different story. (2/2)

But I also type in my native language, however I still use US keyboard because I want to avoid special characters (accented letters) - it’s just how I’m used to communicate online in my native tongue. Yes it’s very niche but I wish there was some toggle in setting it’s driving me mad. (2/2)

Nekdo zkusenosti s vysousenim cerstve nahozenych omitek? Stala se mi kuriozni vec kdy vysousec z nejakeho duvod namrzl, prestoze v byte je teplota nad nulou.

What kind of platform/stack would you choose it you wanted to create a server that performs builds - like generating a static site by downloading content from elsewhere? I’m talking about actually talking about other people’s builds running on such a server and allowing access via API. I’m a bit overwhelmed by spinning up VPS and just using Docker, ideally I’d just use Github Actions *but* I’m not even sure this would be allowed, and also there might be security considerations.

The company’s history makes for excellent storytelling. Apple’s not going anywhere anytime soon, they will probably always make interesting stuff and ton of money even though I feel like their attention to detail and craftsmanship (especially in software) has been declining slowly - but I feel that we lived in sort of honeymoon period post-2000 and these “good vibes” are definitely gone for me. I only wish they named Gene Hackman’s character Henry Caul in Enemy of the State (1998) since it would create a compact universe of surveillance business - both characters are paranoid technicians, only 24 years apart in real world timelines.

Continuing on theme of xmas movie watching: it was my first time this year seeing FF Coppola’s The Conversation (1974). I’d rank it average-to-good. Interesting to see very young Harrison Ford as antagonist in his pre-Star Wars fame.

Actually I almost forgot, there’s a small bit of trivia in there as it’s one of those Hollywood movies which has actor Jan Triska in it, playing KGB spy of course.

Watching The Osterman Weekend (1983) - great cast but overall not a good plot even though it’s based on R. Ludlum novel. I just couldn’t get over the porn-like soundtrack in certain scenes. Would recommend only to big fans of Peckinpah, John Hurt or Rutger Hauer.

Apple’s ADC connector from early 2000s feels like 🪄magic. Was there something similar to this on PC side around that era?

I’m working on CLI tool for creating mastodon post archives. Has anyone used something like that before? I’d like to look at source to check few things out.

😬

You know what? For once I'm going to defend my fellow front-end developers (right? 🤣): I'm sitting in a meeting where async operation is moved from back-end to front-end because BE devs feel "dirty" about having their servers stateful. However, we just move this stuff to web app and then people complain about complexity and on front-end.

:golang: anybody knows whether program can compile other go programs? I know about os/exec but was hoping there is some API from stdlib exposed.

For sketching the diagrams I opted for Wacom Intuos S drawing tablet - I figured that such activity occurs during work hours anyways, so I might as well just place it next to my computer. It was about $70 new (the used ones were going for just 10 bucks less). The plus side is: my daughter might use the tablet as well to do drawing on her computer. Let’s hope 🤞the pen tablet works out. A while ago I started clamoring for an iPad, I wanted a device where I could read books & articles, and occasionally create diagrams with some kind of stylus device. I was kind of skeptical that this would turn out to be the solution. I was worried that I’d spend at least 600$+ and would end up with a device for consuming youtube videos 90% of time. In the end, I instead bought a 2nd hand Kindle Paperwhite to do the reading, that’s been working quite well. (1/2)

Last week in , I could finally say: “Welcome to The Rock” (well, at least in my head)

For example - should I build my server in Go if I expect the traffic to be in lower thousands of requests per minute? Or is this something that NodeJS/Bun runtimes handle just fine, given it's running on decent hardware.
(This is just an example - I just gave those numbers as examples and have no idea what the real figures would be) (2/2)

Does anyone have good performance comparison between and ? You read a lot how certain (usually compiled) languages are more performant and I wonder whether there was an article comparing these two and what are the hypothetical scenarios where one does better than the other. (1/2)

@fuxoft @lukasvac @sesivany mapy.cz is hard to beat in lot of regards but maybe something like Organic Maps could work OK for some use cases

Does not have to be Fediverse per-se but I wish companies/projects would use self-hosted forums/communities like Discourse or even old-school forums around. They are reachable via search engines. Maybe it's also OK if it's managed solution but runs on your domain, this means you can later set-up redirects if you start using something else. social.vivaldi.net/@jon/113550
